NoHo Supermarket Site Becomes Yet Another Gym

Apparently we were very wrong.

The news we are getting is that the former HOWS space in NoHo has been leased by a gym.  We had heard that Gold's Gym had previously pulled permits; the news I am hearing now is that the site will be the latest branch of 24 Hour Fitness.

Considering that no less than four membership based gyms operate within a two - three block radius of the site one wonders why the need for a grocery store was not met.

As it stands, the broker handling the sale, Eric Reuveni, made a statement that most of the residents "do not know how to cook." Thus, HOWS or any other grocery store isn't right for the area.

Unbelievable.

Truly a sad day for NoHo. This area needed a market badly (just not an upscale one). I hope a farmer's market sets up shop nearby.

I think most people in the area do know how to cook, just not with such overpriced groceries.

A Fresh n' Easy would have fit so nicely.

What an idiotic thing to say! Most people cook in these hard economic times. The guy doesn't know jack! Oh yeah, and there is only a new Arts Institute right next door filled with culinary arts students! Get a clue Mr. So-called Broker. Broker this...

This is totally ridiculous and really sad. I live in one of the nearby lofts and one of the things that attracted me to living here was the How's. Yes it was on the expensive side but it was very convenient. I had hoped too that a Fresh & Easy would take over. Another gym is very lame considering not only the four in the area but the ones in the lofts as well.

Your place is still vacant after a year Eric. Good job!! You would have been lucky to be able to land a Sprouts or Henry's Market there, but you're worthless!
