SUMMERTIME: try Rapid Transit.

.
.
SUMMERTIME
GAS PRICES going UP ?
TRAFFIC slowing DOWN ?
By Louis Elovitz
Digital Journalist

...Try Metro Rapid Transit

This might be a slight exaggeration, but I did read
$6 a gallon, and that traffic, this is the Valley not
Manhattan. Oh no, I did it again, of course the Valley
traffic is horrendous and frustrating and hopefully
non-roadragious. The METRO Rapid Transit system
is growing and getting very 'popular' for middle classers
and a necessity for the workers and low income,
especially Seniors. Yes, there is debate about fare
increases, and they are working on softening that matter.
Once one learns how the transit scheduling works
you can set it to a regular or just shopping schedules.
As someone said,
TRY IT, YOU'LL LIKE IT !
Metro Transit Los Angeles

...need more convincing?
READ MY STORY OF A
DRIVE
FROM NOHO
TO LAKE BALBOA...

" TRYING TO DRIVE
..TO THE PARK

..... The Trying Drive "
Back in the day when I was a North Hollywood High Huskie,
we used to cruise to Van Nuys driving up and down the
boulevard past Bob's Big Boy having a great time looking
at
everyone and their cars going back and forth and back
home ,
at that time, the drive was quick and easy.

On any given afternoon try going the same route from NoHo
to Van Nuys Blvd. After grinding slowly, you are ready
to give
up your journey that you pledged to reach a bit
further across
the 405 to Lake Balboa Park.
Are we there yet?
Was there another way?

We know the 101 is busy as a bee, we know Ventura Blvd.
is chrome to chrome from Studio City to Encino.
So, there are
just 2 ways to the park, either
Burbank Blvd. on its south side
or Victory Blvd.
on the north, and more north to Vanowen,

but why go farther, all these streets going east
to west are
always totally clogged.
Will we make it?
We have to, I want to see the birds.

Like a rising wave in Oahu,
we cross over the 405 in
ultra slo-mo,
my clutch foot is trembling.
Now, I know
what you're saying,
why I didn't take Victory Blvd.
that
goes under the freeway.
I respond; then I would also
have to
make a left turn to get to the lake
only to wait, wait,
wait for the
rapid transit Orange Line
on its "dedicated bus-way".

Here we confront many signals and signs
that protect the
so-many ton bus and
its passengers from my '93 mini truck.

Oh yes, finally after the 405 hump
I turn right on Woodley and
into
Lake Balboa Park and I finally saw my birds...

Oh! for those Happy Days cruzin'
after the high school football game.

l.e. 3-07

SO...

with this story you must agree
we should give
rapid transit like the
orangeline a chance especially with
traffic and higher and higher gas prices.

THE TAR TAR PITS

answers...
A PAGE OUT OF THE MUSEUM?
By Louis Elovitz
Digital Journalist

" Ah Whale", said the Sole.
And the Whale responded,
well, you know the rest...
but what is that " coloured " asphalt ?

NOHO CROSSWALKS.

The Art District goes
Pedestrian with these
stylized markings.

{ NOTE:
What am I talking about?... "whales, colOUred"

well, when I was growing up here in NOHO my
best friend Richard Sapiro's
father, Will,
would joke around with us...
He was from
Liverpool, England

and he thought it was SO FUNNY
that us youngin's did not get his joke...

The Sole swims
past the Whale and says,
"AH, WHALE", and the

Whale responds, "AH SOLE"...

we never got it, and he laughed away.
ALSO Richard Sapiro for many years
has been a Volunteer Paleontologist
at the La Brea Tar Pits
( La Brea means The Tar, the tar tar pits )
at the Page Museum, thus

WHERE'S THE BIRD, YOU ASK ?

THE BIRD
IS THE WORD
in NOHO
By Louis Elovitz
Digital Journalist

The vandalized
Noho lankmark
has been restored
at Lankershim and Burbank.

Last year I did a story on the missing eagle
and chair that graced the sphere at the
Tujunga-Burbank-Lankershim crossroad
right across from the car wash, itself a
monument being used since the 50's
( way below see the restored sculpture )

Then we have the SPHERE
seen here
Welcoming All to Noho,
but click to enlarge and you see on
top
the green of old brass
-AND I DO NOW REALLY REMEMBER
a 'chair standing on one leg'
ON TOP OF THE SPHERE
,

I may be crazzzzi,

but I think it looked
like this a chair with an EAGLE
on top of
the sphere

What happened to the
CHAIR ? & EAGLE?
Graffiti laden murals
get repaint jobs,
if this was VANDALISM,
is it going to be repaired.

TAH DAHHH !

Last year I posed my
question of where the
eagle and chair where,
and was given this
information from ALICE
of Tom La Bonge's
Office & Regina of the
Community Redevelopment
Agency and they
TOLD ME

that the monument
WAS VANDALIZED

and it is in the process
of being RESTORED...

AND HERE IT IS.

NoHo MONOLITH Uncovered...

.
.
STILL WONDERING
ABOUT the "MONOLITH" ?

By Louis Elovitz
Digital Journalist

It is that white square in the far middle of this
scenic view of Lankershim looking south.
THE STORY COMING UP...

( all pics clic to enlarge )

My vid shows the skeleton of our new "MONOLITH"
We are near the truition of this project.

The Hughes Family,
yes those markets a while back,
own the new HOW'S Market at
Lankershim and Chandler in the
NOHO COMMONS project.

Seen here the new bank with a
MEMORIAL MARKER
for a fallen L.A. Firefighter killed
fighting an arson fire at a restaurant
at this location.

Mayor Sam says the "MONOLITH" as I call it will
probably announce the NOHO COMMONS.
By the By...
How's Market has WINE TASTINGS which had a little
political stifling that local resident Mike Higby
helped provide positive actions that allow
the events now to occur.

NOHO COMMONS GREETS US !
